I posted this on the idrs forum website. It has gotten lots of views but no response- do you know the answer or where to direct me?
I am wondering if there is any kind of specific information out there about shapers and staples. Specifically- what was the theory/history behind the shape or staple, who designed it, why/what problem was the maker trying to fix, what type of oboe they were designed for, what climate, effects on timbre, pitch, specific notes, dynamics, etc.
I have seen several locations where the exact measurments are given, but I have no idea what they mean beside the general “narrow is more focused but unstable and wide is stable but unfocused” along with all of the other generalities. What about all the in betweens? why the change of .001 in a certain area. So many new staples out there- why?, what are the details? (other than “this staple will give you a dark tone, make everything in tune and bring peace to the universe”) Does anyone know?
